Timothy G. Palzkill, Ph.D.

Mission Statement

The Department of Pharmacology provides training and research opportunities for medical, graduate, and postdoctoral students. We offer a strong graduate program leading to a Ph.D. degree specializing in either pharmacology or molecular biology. We have research programs investigating anti-cancer drug development, cancer biology, mechanisms of antibiotic resistance and neurobiology.

Education & Training Programs

The department's teaching program presents current information on drugs and their mechanisms of action. We participate in the training of medical students through core and elective course offerings. Our graduate program is designed to prepare students for competitive, independent careers in research. The department also participates in the college's M.D./Ph.D. program.

Current Research

Current research programs include: development of in vitro assays for cancer chemotherapeutic agents, control of seizure expression in limbic circuits, hypertension, side effects and interactions of psychotropic medications, and mechanisms of antibiotic resistance.
